A New Era of St Cath’s Sport

The red duffle coat, the panama hat, the red ribbon — since the 1990s, the St Catherine’s School uniform has featured iconic pieces instantly recognisable to the wider community. These items not only bring our girls together as one student body, but also show the community that they belong to St Catherine’s.

As our Acting Deputy and Head of Junior School, Mrs Elizabeth Worsley wrote in the newsletter a few weeks ago, “Members of the community are so impressed by St Catherine’s because they wear their uniform with pride, and our students are kind and confident. This fills me with a sense of pride too, as I realise that others view our students the way I view them.”

The updated uniform will not only boost our confidence but also strengthen our sense of unity, both on and off the sporting field.

From next term, we are excited to build one this unity and sense of belonging with the launch of a brand new PE and Sports uniform suite. Designed in collaboration with leading high-performance manufacturer Valour Sport, this collection has been the result of a long and considered process with students, staff and parents. Today, we are proud to share the ‘new look’ of St Catherine’s sports uniforms.

The development of the new sports uniform began in 2024, when a dedicated student committee, representing both the Junior and Senior Schools, were brought together. The girls began sharing their honest and detailed feedback about fit, function and comfort in sportswear.

Suggestions made by the girls, including adding zippers to the trackpants and incorporating reversible colours in sports jerseys, were incorporated into the final uniform designs. As committee member Stella D (Year 10) explained, “during the design process, our feedback was genuinely considered, resulting in clothing that is not only more comfortable but also more functional, shaped by our own opinions and experiences. It really reflects student preferences.”

Ultimately, the girls asked for a uniform that felt comfortable to wear, suited all body types and reflected the way they play and compete — and we listened, working with parents, staff and the students themselves to bring to life a suite of sports uniforms that we can all be proud of.

But we also wanted our new uniform to reflect our strong history as a school. For the past 169 years, our school has provided opportunities for girls to thrive on the sporting field, and this heritage is woven into the new collection.

From the original school crest on hem tags, to a custom pattern incorporating the current crest and the STC monogram, which has sat on our school gates for generations, and the traditional STC tri-colour on shirt banding, there are many details that connect our current athletes directly to our strong history as a school. We can’t wait for our community to discover them in the months and years to come.

The new uniform suite will be available from mid-Term 4 for try on and pre-order through the St Catherine’s Uniform Shop, with delivery scheduled for January 2026.

Although there will be a two-year transition period with the current uniform, the girls are already looking forward to representing the school in our ‘new look’.

“I’m very excited about the new uniform and especially I’m really looking forward to showcasing our new style to other schools,” Stella said, “The updated uniform will not only boost our confidence but also strengthen our sense of unity, both on and off the sporting field.”
